Diversity and inclusion are a part of AHLA's value system and are essential to the Association's ability to produce the highest quality non-partisan educational programs, products, and services concerning health law issues. AHLA values and seeks to advance and promote diverse and inclusive participation within the Association and there are numerous opportunities for all members to become involved in a way that best meets their professional development needs, expertise, and time parameters.

Call for Authors

Practice/Affinity Group Alerts, Bulletins, Briefings, and Newsletters

  • The Regulation, Accreditation, and Payment Practice Group (RAP PG) We are seeking volunteer writers for the next issue of our newsletter, RAP sheet, to be released next January. With the final payment rules coming out, it is an exciting time to write and publish by November 15, 2018. Submit your interest today.
  • The Hospitals & Health Systems Practice Group is interested in volunteers to author articles for the Spring 2019 edition of the Hospitals and Health Systems Rx newsletter. Draft content will be due from the author(s) on or about January 1, 2019. If interested, please submit a brief proposal, including description of subject and 4-6 bullet points, by November 21, 2018. Submit your interest today.
  • The Antitrust Practice Group is seeking authors to write articles for the third edition of its Antitrust Advisor newsletter. The next newsletter will be published in February 2019 and final articles are due January 2, 2019. Please submit a brief description of the article you propose to write no later than November 26, 2018. Submit your interest today.
  • The Health Care Liability and Litigation Practice Group (HCLL PG) is seeking volunteers to publish alerts, bulletins, and other articles affiliated with the liability and litigation issues. Although you can pick any topic, possible areas include FCA, government enforcement, FCPA, payor/provider disputes, etc. Timing is flexible. This opportunity closes on December 1, 2018.   • The Health Information and Technology Practice Group (HIT PG) seeks volunteers to provide short summaries (<1,000 words) of current news and developments in the health information technology area. Candidates would sign up for a particular calendar month and commit to provide at least one but ideally two PG Alerts for the HIT PG. This opportunity closes on December 31, 2018.   • The Academic Medical Centers and Teaching Hospitals Practice Group (AMCTH) is seeking authors for PG Bulletins and PG Briefings. A PG Bulletin is a short article on a current awareness topic that includes substantial analysis and application (1000-2000 words). A PG Briefing is a publication that provides in-depth analysis of a noteworthy development or issue in health law (2000+ words). Ideally authors will draft and finalize articles in Fall 2018. This opportunity closes on December 31, 2018. Submit your interest today.
  • The Children's Health Affinity Group (CHAG) seeks volunteers to author publications on topics of interest to children's hospitals. These publications range from brief bulletins of 1,000-2,000 words analyzing relevant issues to more substantial publications involving a deeper dive into a particular topic. Potential topics could include behavioral health issues, telehealth, working with schools, working with adult care providers, reimbursement issues, or other issues that relate to children's hospitals. This opportunity closes on December 31, 2018. CHAG is affiliated with the Academic Medical Centers and Teaching Hospitals PG and the In-House Counsel PG. Submit your interest today.
  • The Business Law and Governance Practice Group (BLG) seeks authors for PG Alerts, Bulletins, or Briefings. Volunteers would commit to generating at least one PG Alert, Bulletin, or Briefing during the 2018-2019 program year on a topic of the author's choosing. We define business law and governance broadly. Individuals, firms, and organizations may sign up to cover a particular month. The BLG PG leadership can assist in brainstorming potential ideas for PG Alerts, Bulletins, or Briefings if needed. We also need volunteers who are interested in monitoring "hot topics" as well as those who would like to prepare short articles (1,000-2,000 words). This opportunity closes on December 31, 2018.   • The Health Care Liability and Litigation Practice Group (HCLL PG) is seeking volunteers to draft the Feature Article in the April 2019 AHLA Connections. The article should be 2,500-3,000 words and can be a topic of your choice focused on healthcare liability and litigation. This opportunity closes on January 2, 2019. Submit your interest today.
  • The Hospitals & Health Systems Practice Group is seeking assistance to help keep our membership up-to-date on hot topics with Email Alerts and Bulletins. We are need volunteers to monitor the news for items relevant to the HHS PG members and write short articles (1,000-2,000 words) on those topics. This opportunity closes on March 30, 2019.   • The In-House Counsel Practice Group (IHC) seeks authors for short Practice Group alerts - short summaries (1,000 words or less) of breaking a breaking news item that is of interest in healthcare attorneys serving in in-house counsel roles. Volunteer should be able to commit to producing an alert in a specific month or on a specific topic. This opportunity closes on May 1, 2019. Submit your interest today.
  • The Life Science Practice Group (LS PG) is seeking authors for PG Alerts, Bulletins, or Briefings during the AHLA 2018-2019 program year. To better facilitate the timely generation of these publications, we are asking LS PG members and their colleagues to commit to generating at least one PG Alert, Bulletin, or Briefing during the year on a topic of the author's choosing. We define life sciences broadly to include pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical device, research and development, U.S. Food and Drug Administration, and intellectual property issues. Months will be scheduled in advance, and individuals, firms, and organizations may sign up to cover a particular month. We seek volunteers to sign up for one or two months during the current AHLA year and hope to have enough volunteers to assign at least two volunteers to each month. The LS PG leadership can assist in brainstorming potential ideas for PG Alerts, Bulletins, or Briefings if needed. To ensure impartiality, authors may not write about cases or issues in which their law firm or company are or were directly involved. In particular, we encourage younger members of the LS PG to participate in this effort. This opportunity closes June 30, 2019. Submit your interest today.


Practice/Affinity Group Toolkits

  • The Business Law and Governance Practice Group (BLG) seeks volunteers to help update its Corporate Governance Toolkit. Volunteers would receive and benefit from a prior outline that has been completed on this topic. Volunteers are asked to complete up to 40 hours total for this project.   • The Enterprise Risk Management Task Force (ERM TF) is seeking volunteers to present as speakers for our monthly ERM TF Educational Calls.
